Messages of Thanks

"5th Jan 2013 Many thanks TWGPP and to the volunteer photographers,
Pte Thomas Clark Dewar, date of birth 9th May 1895, died 19/12/15, was my great grandfather's younger brother. They were very close (he was Best Man at my great grandfather's wedding in 1912) and he spoke about him often to the family including his grand daughter, my mum.
My mum will be thrilled by this picture. This means a lot to my family, so many heartfelt thanks.

"19th December 2012 - I would like to send my thanks for the efforts of your organisation,
I just wanted to let you know that my mother Iris is the daughter of Rasmas Jensen,
of whom the war grave photo shows.
My mother is 82 and ill with emphysema and has never seen her fathers grave and just by seeing this picture will be something I know she will treasure always.
Personally, I don't think enough is done to remember our fallen, but at least there are people like you that do help to carry on their memory.
again, thank you and all the best,
"

"28 November 2012- Dear TWGPP,
I have just received my order of a photo of my late grandfather in law. I felt compelled to contact you and thank you so much for what you have done.
My father in law recently turned 70 and he never got the chance to meet his father (his father met him but he was only a baby). He is desperate to find out a little about his father so we did a bit of research and found your website with the photo. Something so simple has brought him some comfort and I cannot thank you all for taking these photos.
My search has now begun and this has spurred me on to find out more and hopefully my father in law can visit the grave himself!
Thank you again,
"

"22 November 2012 - Dear TWGPP,
I am now in receipt of the photo of my uncle's headstone in the Bologna War Cemetery in Italy. My family is very pleased that we finally have a photo of the resting place of our uncle, Trooper George Thomas, A.466, from the Ontario Regiment who was killed in action on Nov. 25, 1944. I commend you for the work that you do and that it must give you great satisfaction to know that people around the world can finally "bring their loved ones home" even through a photograph.
Best Regards,
"

I wanted to thank you so much for the photos, this is really wonderful how you take these pictures. My Great-granddad turns 100 this December, and this is his father, he died when my great-granddad was only 4 years old. However, he still remembers his father, even after all of these years. My grandmother who is English, but lives in the states now, is going to be with him for his birthday. She is so excited to show him what we've discovered, she is sure he did not realize/remember that this was here, and now he can see where his father is honored and remembered, even if he can't see the engraving in person. I think it will really mean a lot to him, so thank you again for taking the time to provide such a great service.
Sincerely,
"

"21 November - I write to thank you enormously for the service you operate so efficiently – to have our two requests dealt with within 5 hours, and in an evening rather than normal working hours is quite remarkable! I’ve never used it before and didn’t even suspect its existence since I last looked online at the CWGC. The volunteers who have tirelessly gone to take so many photographs of so many gravestones and memorial panels will probably never know the effect that their labours have on the recipients of such tangible evidence of their ancestors’ ultimate sacrifice.
Re John Dyson and Tyne Cot: this was my wife’s grandfather, killed at Passchendaele, who was never known to be remembered other than as a name by his daughter and grand-daughters.
Re Harry Dyson and Kantara: this was John’s older brother who survived the war only to die of dysentery exactly 3 weeks after the Armistice. He was a great friend of my own maternal grandfather, who fortunately did return from Egypt.
Both very poignant stories.
So…. Many, many heartfelt thanks to you yourself and all those who work for the WGPP.

"15 November 2012 - Thank you so much for doing such an amazing service! I stumbled upon this organization and words cannot express the feeling it was like to get this email and see my Uncle’s grave site. I never expected to get emotional about it, but just being able to see a visual of the final resting place for him gave a sense of peace.
Thanks again – your thoughtfulness in why you did this project is very much appreciated.
Sincerely,
"

"14 November 2012 - Thank you so much for your assistance and for making this photograph available. My late father and his two brothers all served overseas. This dearly beloved young man was the one who never returned. It was such a great loss for my father that I couldn't help but feel it myself, and to feel a very strong connection with him even though I never knew him, because he died before I was born. My own brother was named after him. Unfortunately none of us has ever been to Italy, but it is my sister's intention to get there one day and to visit the grave. In the meantime, it is very comforting to be able to see it online and now to be able to have a photograph of it. Special thanks to Sam Perreault for taking the photo.
Sincerely,
"

"14 November 2012 - This is great work you are all doing, thanks very much. This request was to see my grandfather's grave who was captured by the Japs in 1941 and taken to Ballale in he Solomons. God knows whatever happened to him exactly but we've researched a story of his regiment which completely contradicts what the MoD have said happened to him! I don't suppose we will get any closure on this, as they were treated very badly as POWs, but seeing his grave certainly helps. I just need to show it to my father now.
Best regards to you and your wonderful team, keep up the good work

"13 November 2012 - I just wanted to let you know how much receiving this picture means to me. When I first opened and downloaded the attachment of his grave marker, I was brought to tears. Victor Stone was my mothers uncle or my great uncle. I never knew him per se, but after being told how he gave his life to save his men when their tank was bombed by the germans, I just knew I had to find out more about him. Your picture has allowed me to connect with a relative and a war veteran who to me, is a hero. My mother also sends her appreciation.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
With kind regards,
"
